Reflections Of A BP Traveler: Six Bespoke Luxury Travel Experiences
Discover the blueprint of luxury travel as we journey through one traveler’s six bespoke journeys with Blue Parallel from 2007 to 2025.
Blue Parallel first hosted Helen and Peter Warwick in Argentina in 2007, followed by five more luxury tours to Costa Rica, Portugal, Chile, Argentina, and Patagonia. As lovers of all things outdoors, each bespoke journey was tailored around active adventures and close encounters with nature.
In this Q&A, we find out more about the epic expeditions the pair have embarked upon with Blue Parallel and hear about Helen’s most unforgettable experiences over the years.
How Did You First Hear About Blue Parallel?
Some of our good friends were in Chile and we planned on visiting them and were interested in extending our vacation to Argentina.

We knew we wanted to travel in private and started researching luxury travel agencies that were experts in South America. Despite being extensive travelers, we didn’t have extensive knowledge of Argentina and felt the need for a travel expert.
Blue Parallel appeared in our research and looked to know the region very well, from the culture and culinary experiences to the fauna, flora, and outdoor adventures on offer.

How Was Working With Blue Parallel Different From Planning Your Own Journeys?
I have worked with a number of travel companies during my professional career and so we have always been comfortable traveling independently, without a travel expert. However, as neither of us had much knowledge of Argentina, we decided it was best to work with a travel company.
What we enjoy about working with Blue Parallel is the level of comfort we have knowing that an expert has already done all the research needed to ensure luxurious and seamless travel experiences.
When you’re traveling independently and conducting your own vacation research, you often have to rely on reviews from people you don’t know. We sometimes experience “first-day vacation blues” because a destination, accommodation or restaurant doesn’t live up to our expectations.

Blue Parallel understands our tastes and this has deepened the more we have traveled with them. As their travel experts travel to the regions they serve and vet the accommodations, restaurants, guides, and experiences, they make expert recommendations based on our preferences.
We return to Blue Parallel knowing the standard of travel experiences we are going to receive.
Please Summarize Your Blue Parallel Experience…
I would describe our experiences with Blue Parallel over the years as “creating beautifully unexpected moments.”
Can You Share Your “Wow Moments” From Your Blue Parallel Trips?
From all of the unique and incredible experiences we have enjoyed with Blue Parallel over the years, these three stand out the most:
1. Patagonia: A Surprise Under The Glacier
During our first tour with Blue Parallel, we visited Patagonia. Our private guide picked us up for what we knew would be a strenuous day hike up to a glacier. He was carrying our lunch in a small backpack, which made us a bit concerned as we didn’t think it would be enough after such an intense trek.
However, as soon as we turned the corner to the glacier, we were met with a beautiful outdoor set-up, where vibrant lupins bloomed against the dramatic backdrop of ice and rock. To our surprise, a private chef was preparing a gourmet lunch, and a musician performed live as we enjoyed epic views of this glacial landscape.

It was an experience we never expected, and it encapsulated what makes traveling with Blue Parallel so special—the thoughtfulness, the surprise, and the magic of the moment.
2. Argentina: A Hidden Gem Just Beyond The Crowds
Another remarkable experience that took place in Argentina was an exquisite private mate tasting. What made it so special was the location—just minutes away from a major tourist destination, yet completely secluded and serene, we got to take in sought-after views while enjoying privacy away from the crowds.
While sipping mate, our local guide shared stories of the land’s history and traditions. It was a memorable moment, made even more meaningful by the cultural insights we gained.

3. Atacama – A Hike Through History
In Chile’s Atacama Desert, we embarked on a hike led by a guide who was born and raised in the very valley we were exploring. She shared incredible insight into the landscape, explaining how the region had changed over time. This made the experience deeply personal as we learned first-hand about both the challenges and beauty of the desert.

Do You Have Any Favorite Accommodations?
The accommodations Blue Parallel recommended over the years have always been great and we can rely on the property’s care and attention to detail.
If I had to pick favorites, I would choose:
- Eolo, Patagonia
- Vira Vira, Lake District in Chile
- Villa Beluno, Bariloche in Argentina
- Six Senses, Douro Valley in Portugal
- Pacuare Lodge, Costa Rica
Have You Feel Supported By The Blue Parallel Team During Your Trips?
We have felt the support of Blue Parallel throughout all of our journeys.
One year, we decided to book the flights ourselves and ended up having to transfer. It was one of the worst experiences but Blue Parallel was on hand to help us. It also demonstrated the importance of allowing Blue Parallel to shine where they are experts.

When working with Blue Parallel, everything goes smoothly.
How Valuable Was The Team’s Insider Knowledge And Experience?
Blue Parallel’s insider knowledge and experience in their destinations is why we continue to travel with them. Their expertise is very valuable and offers a certain level of flexibility that you might not get elsewhere.
During one trip, we wanted to change one of the activities for Peter at the last minute. Blue Parallel had excellent knowledge of all the other options available and were quick to reply with recommendations based on our preferences.

Does Blue Parallel Design Itineraries Suited To You?
Blue Parallel understands the way we like to travel and the types of activities we enjoy. They also know what we are looking for in terms of accommodations and culinary experiences.

No matter where we go, our itineraries are packed with exciting outdoor adventures like hiking, which we love.
We also prefer dining at smaller, local restaurants and this is taken into account on every tour. In El Chalten, we had a delicious meal at a wonderful little restaurant run by a local couple. It was a great experience and allowed us to enjoy a local favorite with few crowds
What Do You Think Makes Blue Parallel Special?
The people are what makes Blue Parallel special. They have found incredible people around the world who are well-trained, engaging, thoughtful, and kind. The guides all care deeply about the places they are showing you and are sensitive to the region’s history and the fragility of landscapes. The people truly transform the experiences you enjoy.
