Lima (1 night)
Your luxury Machu Picchu tour starts as you land in Lima, where you will be greeted by your personal host and taken to your hotel.
Sacred Valley (2 nights)
Receive assistance with check-in for your flight to Cusco the following morning. Upon arrival, your personal guide will show you the best of the Sacred Valley. Highlights include a multi-course Peruvian lunch at the elegant Hacienda Huayoccari, served in the historic dining room surrounded by colonial art. Afterward, go horseback riding along local trails on Peruvian Paso horses, a unique breed known for its smooth ride. Along the way, take in spectacular views of the Andes and the lush valley’s agricultural farms. Alternatively, you can experience a Shaman meditation ceremony arranged especially for your private party after lunch. Finally, spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at your lodge in the heart of the Sacred Valley.
The next day, head by private transfer to the village of Cruzpata, where you will embark on an exciting mountain biking excursion to the terraced ruins of Moray. As you bike across the rolling hills of the valley, you will witness daily rituals of Peruvian rural life, such as local families working their cornfields. Stop at a secluded spot facing the impressive Andes for a gourmet picnic lunch before you reach the ruins of Moray. Once there, enjoy a private tour with your expert local guide.
From Moray, your private tour of Peru continues with a private transfer to Maras, a pre-Incan site that has continuously produced salt for centuries. The terraces are divided into over 3,000 salt pools still harvested to this day by local families. Next, head into the village of Maras for a private tasting of pisco – a famous local brandy – at an exclusive house. You will then return to your lodge to rest before visiting the highlight of any luxury Peru tour: the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu (2 nights)
Experience an awe-inspiring train ride along the towering Andes and the Quechua-speaking villages of the Sacred Valley as you head toward Machu Picchu. Either disembark the train at kilometer 104 and hike the last portion of the Inca Trail with your personal guide (passing through the Gate of the Sun) or take the luxurious Hiram Bingham train to Aguas Calientes, near Machu Picchu.
Check in to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, an exclusive lodge that overlooks the ruins, surrounded by gardens. Alternatively, stay at the enchanting Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, nestled between steep mountain walls of Andean greenery in the valley below the ruins. You’ll wander through the ruins, trek to the Gate of the Sun, or ascend Machu Picchu Mountain; from above the clouds, take in the views of the Andes’ peaks. Blue Parallel will plan your daily hikes based on your activity level and interests.
Cusco (2 nights)
Your private Machu Picchu tour continues with a luxury train ride back to the Sacred Valley, where you will head to Cusco, the city of the “Children of the Sun.” Along the way, stop at Wayra, a traditional Peruvian restaurant in Urubamba, for an alfresco meal and a Paso horse show. Before reaching Cusco, visit the Chinchero Weaving Center to meet the Callanaupa family and learn about Peruvian weaving traditions.
In Cusco, you can choose between three luxury hotels: Palacio Nazarenas, a former palace and convent dating back to the 16th century; Monasterio Hotel, a monastery that was originally built in 1592 by descendants of the Spanish Conquistadores; or La Casona, a 16th-century manor house restored as an 11-suite luxury hotel.
The following day, enjoy breakfast with a Peruvian scholar as he explains the rich history of the Incas, and later visit the famed Cusco Central Market. Afterward, depart on a private guided tour of the main attractions of Cusco, including the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, the Company of Jesus Church, La Merced Church, and the Museum of Religious Art located in the Archbishop’s palace. You’ll also be treated to a private music demonstration in the beautiful chapel of the Monasterio Hotel. Learn about the many different string, wind, and percussion instruments from various Peruvian civilizations dating back to pre-Incan times. In the evening, enjoy Cusco’s dynamic nightlife – the city is home to a choice of excellent restaurants and bars.
The final day of your luxury Machu Picchu tour begins with a journey off the beaten track to the outskirts of Cusco to explore the Baroque churches that form part of Peru’s rich and diverse culture. You will first visit the tranquil village of Huaro to see St. John the Baptist Church, and later St. Peter’s Apostle Church in Andahuaylillas, famed for its impressive architecture and gold-leaf design.
On your way back to Cusco, stop in the town of Pinimpampa, the largest producer of Cusco’s famous handmade tiles. These same tiles have lined the roofs of Cusco’s houses for hundreds of years. Enjoy lunch in Cusco and later depart for the airport for your international flight back home via Lima. With only a few hours left of your private Peru tour, relax with a day-check at the airport hotel next door before your late evening flight.
