NORWAY'S HIGHLIGHTS

NORWAY'S HIGHLIGHTS

Oslo

Founded at the end of the Viking Age, Oslo has since developed into a modern and sophisticated metropolis. The city’s previously rugged docklands have transformed into an artistic hub, blooming with beautiful architecture and excellent museums. With relics of their rich Viking heritage preserved throughout the city, it's easy to see why Norwegians have adventure and exploration embedded in their DNA. As the third largest city in Scandinavia, Oslo houses many of Norway’s best cultural highlights. These include the Akershus Fortress, National Opera House and City Hall, where the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony has taken place. Marking the ideal start to any luxury tour of Norway, Oslo stands as the gateway to discovering the country’s natural beauty.

Fjords

Both majestic and mighty, the Fjords of Norway are a living testament to the force of nature. Voyagers for centuries have been humbled by the sheer size and beauty of these snow-capped mountains, towering granite walls, mountain ledge farms, and charming villages tucked into bays. Known as "the heart of the fjords," the charming city of Bergen is located on the west coast of Norway. The colorful wooden houses along Bryggen Wharf are an iconic spot in Norway's second-largest city and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take in Bergen's countryside on the famed Flamsbana train and the breathtaking Aurlandsfjord and Naeroyfjord on a ferry ride that offers an incredible experience passing along the grand mountain peaks and glacier-sculpted valleys. The traditional port town of Alesund is the proud gatekeeper to the iconic Geirangerfjord; this breathtaking 20 kilometer long fjord is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The deep blue waters here are surrounded by lush green vegetation and delightful waterfalls. Whether kayaking through the breathtaking fjords of the Storfjord region, biking down into the lush green valleys of Norangsdalen, or hiking to the Saksa mountain peak for stunning views of the Sunnmøre Alps, the Norwegian Fjords are a true outdoor playground.

Alta

Beneath the ethereal glow of the Arctic sky, Alta reveals a landscape of stark beauty and quiet wonder. Framed by rugged fjords and vast snow-covered plateaus, this remote town is a gateway to Norway’s wildest Arctic frontiers. Here, frozen rivers and silent forests give way to expansive tundras, while the Aurora Borealis dances across the winter sky. Alta’s unique setting allows for extraordinary experiences, including dog sledding across pristine snowfields, snowmobiling through untamed wilderness, and visiting ancient rock carvings that tell stories from millennia past. Despite its remote location, Alta offers welcoming comforts, from cozy lodges and modern hotels to local eateries serving Arctic delicacies. A destination that feels both isolated and exhilarating, Alta is a testament to nature’s raw power and serene beauty. Often considered the gateway to the Finnmark region and the Arctic Circle, Alta is a launching point for unforgettable adventures under the northern lights.

Lofoten

One of Norway's most spectacular locations, Lofoten is a collection of picturesque islands located far north above the Arctic Circle. Like a winter fairytale, nature takes center stage here, with visitors only recently having discovered this Nordic treasure. Lofoten’s grand archipelago is home to charming fishing villages and idyllic beaches, tucked away amongst the imposing granite mountains and a spectacular labyrinth of waterways. Against this magnificent landscape, the blazing northern lights paint the sky a dazzling array of colors on frosty winter nights. In addition to spectacular hiking and outdoor adventures, Lofoten offers the chance to partake in a legendary and unique cod fishing event. Every winter, millions of Arctic cod swim to Lofoten to spawn. Travelers can experience this incredible phenomenon firsthand onboard an authentic fishing vessel along with the local fishermen.

Everything on our trip to Norway and Denmark was great. The accommodations were really good, particularly the Storfjord in Alesund. Everything ran like a Swiss clock, and we didn't have to worry about anything. All the guides were good, knowledgeable, and outgoing. We loved our night in the private lighthouse; we watched the storm roll in as we relaxed in the hot tub. We also enjoyed the private boat excursion along the canals in Copenhagen. It was perfect.

Overall, we really enjoyed our tour to Norway. We loved the property in Alesund and would have happily spent more time there; the view was jaw-dropping! The downhill biking was an exciting activity and our guide was excellent. We travel frequently and I always try and arrange boating experiences on each trip. This private boat excursion was one of the best and most fun family travel experiences we've ever had; the captain was excellent and everything was stunningly beautiful. The lighthouse on the private island was fantastic - out of the park: the boys got to fish all day and they loved it, the chef prepared a delicious meal, the wood fired hot tub was great and we even got lucky enough to see the Northern Lights for around 20-25 minutes despite it being August! We also loved our hotel in Stockholm and our guide here was excellent. He was super knowledgeable and flexible with our plans - he even added the Viking Museum into our itinerary for the boys.

We enjoyed all the activities, as well as everyone we met along the way. Our guide in Stockholm was extremely knowledgeable and we had a good time with him. Highlights included the private helicopter tour in Iceland and the private cruise around Stockholm's archipelago. The Thief Hotel in Oslo was incredible. We are looking forward to our upcoming tour to Spain and Portugal this year.
